Panel Discussion

Each afternoon of the conference, Muneera Spence, a Yale graduate and chair of VCUQ’s Graphic Design department, will moderate a discussion with the day’s presenters and VCUQ seniors. The conversations will focus on the topics and issues discussed in the day’s presentations and how they apply to local situations in Doha and Qatar.

Muneera Spence graduated from Yale University with an MFA degree. She has taught at the university level for 20 years. While on sabbatical from Oregon State University she is serving as Chair of the Graphic Design Department at Virginia Commonwealth University School of the Arts in Doha, Qatar. As a tenured, Associate Professor of Graphic Design at Oregon State University, she has taught students from the sophomore to senior level, including a number of Independent Studies and Honors Thesis students. Her research interests include developing collaborative interdisciplinary teaching methods and practices and critique methodologies, while focusing on curricular design and development processes. Her professional work in Graphic Design represents a wide range of projects from branding, museum catalogs, and posters, to brochures, invitation systems, and signage systems. Spence’s personal work focuses on issues pertaining to the family in a multicultural context.
