Drew Francis Cameron is the principal artist of Combat Paper® which transforms the fabric of military uniforms into handmade paper. Cameron, a veteran of war, facilitates workshops with the public in the physical action and generation of paper artwork, prints and books. The production of Combat Paper® initiates connections between people and a craft practice, between military-connected communities and those outside of military service and connections for all exploring our collective understanding of warfare and the aftermath.
Cameron has traveled with his unusual paper studio and technique for nearly two decades, employing the process in service of open workshops, exhibitions and events at various venues. Cameron’s artists’ books and print editions are in numerous public collections, museums and libraries throughout the United States including a collection at the Library of Congress. Cameron maintains his paper studio and resides in Iowa City, Iowa, a UNESCO city of literature.
