One-day in-person workshop led by Thor McIntyre-Burnie
- March 4, 2024, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Location: Room 166, VCUarts Qatar & Oxygen Park (TBC)
- Upon Registration Only
This is an off-site workshop. Transportation to the workshop location is via the Education City tram and is part of the experience.
This workshop will utilize Oxygen Park as a base to ask: how can we build ‘Deep-listening’ into our design? So that we insure our parks and public spaces invite, excite and cater for the wide variety of needs of all our communities?
Participants will explore how site-specific art can inform Universal Design, with an expert in this field, Artist and creative director of ASWARM, Thor McIntyre-Burnie. Engaging with a range of users and using techniques to sensorially map and see-through-sound, we will interrogate what ‘Inclusion’ means, awakening new ways to approach spatial design in the parks and public spaces of the future.
The sessions will draw on Thor’s unique expertise – developed over 25 years- for transforming the way public spaces function and sharing collective voices, inviting us to discover new ways to utilize the park and enhance our sense of agency within it.
Why Oxygen Park?
Education City as a destination has long been considered a goal for QF as the precinct grows it’s offering to encourage local communities, students and families to explore. With a huge focus on Social Progress, and the home of one of the world’s most accessible Stadiums on its doorstep, and two of the country’s leading autism schools, and a nursery housed less then 5 mins walk from the park, it’s safe to assume that the park offers a perfect Social space/ playground for all.
Workshop participants are required to bring their mobile phones fully charged with headphones. They require a speech-to-text app and a sampler app.
This workshop is a repetition of the workshop from March 3, 2023, 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
