Workshop Leader

A multimedia artist based in Montreal, Mourad Bncr’s work seamlessly blends cinematic composition with immersive sound creation. Rooted in experimental electronic music, his work incorporates both synthetic and recorded artifacts to create heightened auditory landscapes with a keen attention to texture and detail. Over the years, he has cultivated a rich and visually compelling approach to music, establishing connections between his North African cultural heritage, science fiction tropes, and audiovisual artifacts from obsolete technologies. Inspired by the concept of memory transience, his artistic research questions our experience of physical and synthetic spaces, the way we archive these spaces and the cultural significance they hold.

As a member of the team at the Society for Arts and Technology [SAT] since 2017, Mourad Bncr has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring artists in various aspects of dome creation worldwide, with a particular focus on immersive sound. With participation in numerous dome projects over the years, he has concurrently built a prolific career as an independent sound designer specializing in collective immersion through spatial sound and interactivity. He has collaborated with notable artists such as French artist Pierre Friquet, as well as studios Irregular and Nature Graphique. Moreover, he has contributed scores to multiple films, including works by directors Nicolas Lachapelle, Ariel St-Louis Lamoureux, Florian Delafournière, and Kibwe Tavares.
