One-day in-person workshop led by Jeannine Diego
- March 4, 2024, 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM
- Location: Room 225, VCUarts Qatar
- Upon Registration Only
The main purpose of an artist statement is to explain our unicity and offer clues into the prism from which the public should view and understand our body of work. It answers the what, how and why of our singular creative vision. What to say about oneself? What not to say? How can we make such bold assessments today, knowing that they may not be true of us tomorrow?
What would happen if we were to create an artist statement using generative technology (AI)? Would it succeed in expressing the uniqueness of our artistic vision? Would it be compelling enough? Would it fulfill the mission of an artist statement, which is to say, help us to distinguish ourselves from others? Or would it, conversely, make us indistinguishable, a lump of buzzwords, a “category”, a “type”? Could we even recognize ourselves in it?
Students will engage in a series of exercises that analyze the limits and scope of generative technology, culminating with a 2-3 minute video that describes their process and registers their response/reaction to an AI-generated artist statement and portrait.
This workshop is a repetition of the workshop from March 3, 2023, 1:30 PM – 5:30 PM.
