In a world where boundaries blur and diverse communities converge, it is ever more important to address the challenges of preserving the past while adapting to new and shifting futures. Global migration, which includes both “by choice” and “by force” has tripled since 1970. More people live in cities now than in rural areas, and populations are increasingly made up of non-native citizens/residents. Additionally, we are becoming more and more aware of underserved and marginalized communities that span every demographic.
How can heritage – individual, cultural, built – adapt to accommodate the needs of a globalized society while preserving its essence?
