The key question is imagining alternative worlds. This is the goal of the workshop: learning to design beyond familiar territories, exploring together possible worlds and desirable scenarios.

From imagination to prototype, we will create devices and rituals capable of challenging established models, opening up spaces for new visions of the present and the future. We will ask ourselves: what alternatives can we design? Which futures do we want to inhabit?

Dr. Hesperia Iliadou is founder of MESS (Museums’ & Exhibitions’ Studies Society) in Venice. She is an art historian, curator, and educator whose work explores the intersections of art, architecture, museums, and cultural heritage. Bridging academic research with curatorial practice, she develops interdisciplinary projects that connect historical archives, contemporary design, and public engagement. Having worked across Greece, Italy, and Qatar, she is particularly interested in fostering intercultural dialogue through exhibitions, research, and educational initiatives, creating meaningful connections between cultural institutions, creative communities, and audiences.

M2P (metoo_patterns) is a research, artistic, and commercial project by metoo,

the graphic design studio founded in Athens Greece by Aliki Kakoulidou and Dimitra Vasilakou. Working at the intersection of visual communication and cultural research, we believe design is shaped by the collaborations, processes, and materials behind it, as well as its social and environmental impact. Our work reinterprets archival material through contemporary patterns and applications, combining graphic design, digital tools, and traditional craftsmanship. By bringing timeless motifs into a fresh visual language, we aim to reconnect cultural heritage with everyday life.

A two-day hands-on workshop inviting researchers, designers, students, and anyone interested in curated design to explore museum archives as sources of creative inspiration.

Working with a museum collection, participants will develop research questions and explore hidden stories, patterns, and connections within archival materials. Through guided exercises in writing, storyboarding, and collage, they will transform archival research into contemporary design concepts and develop a practical toolkit for creative, research-led design. In the second session, participants will create their own pattern and object, inspired by their archival research, and present their work as part of a curated micro-exhibition.

The workshop aims to build confidence in using archives as tools for creative inquiry and interdisciplinary design practice. Participants will leave with new methods for translating historical material into meaningful contemporary outcomes and engaging audiences through research, storytelling, and design.

Kelli Anderson uses design magic to connect people with the depth and possibility of their world. She created This Book is a Camera (MoMA)—which transforms into a working camera—and This Book is a Planetarium (Chronicle)—which houses paper devices (including a planetarium) and has sold more than 100,000 copies. Alphabet in Motion, an interactive book about typography and technology was published in the Fall of 2025. Other projects include a viral paper record player and—with The Yes Men—a utopian counterfeited New York Times, which won the Ars Electronica Prix. Doctors without Borders have used

the award-winning Tinybop Human Body app she created to communicate illness and treatment nonverbally to their patients in remote areas. Clients include NPR, the New Yorker, the Guggenheim, MoMA, Apple, and the New York Times.

(This Book is a Camera (MoMA)) – والذي يتحول إلى كاميرا تعمل – وكتاب “هذا الكتاب قبة فلكية – This Book is a Planetarium ” (دار نشر كرونيكل) – والذي يضم أجهزة ورقية (بما في ذلك قبة فلكية) وقد بيع منه أكثر من 100,000 نسخة.

PAPER AS A METAPHOR VS. PAPER AS AN INTERFACE
In this workshop, we will use paper to demonstrate an approach to design: Can you use a material as an interface on something invisible in your world? Can humble paper serve as an interface on the outside world? Students will be introduced to Kelli’s experimental pop-up books, as well as the work of Italian graphic designer, artist, and bookmaker, Bruno Munari. We will interrogate air and air resistance as a starting point for a creative intervention. We will recreate Munari’s 1969 performance piece and “make air visible” together.

Some questions we will consider: How can you use paper on an interface to understand air? Can you build something that helps reveal a hidden tendency of air, wind, gravity? Is it possible for an object to alter what we notice in our environment? How can we use design to get our audience to pay attention differently?

Treasury of Trust surveys the visual language of trust through a collaborative super8 filmmaking process. Trust–– the firm belief in the reliability and strength of one another-– is at the heart of our work. In embracing the essential role of collaboration that sits at the heart of filmmaking we enact trust in each other and our tools.

Consider- how we utilize our hands, face and body language to express emotion or to communicate safety and trust? Where does intimacy exist in public? What actions do we take to assure one person of our trustworthiness? What landscapes make us feel safe? What utensils, tools or home objects symbolize trust?

Consider the broader symbolism of trust–– hands locked, an open space on a park bench, or an open door. When do we know a place is worthy of our trust? What does nurture look like at home? Our answers shape our film.

Woody Poulard is an interdisciplinary artist and musician of Haitian descent whose practice transforms algorithmic processes into moving image, multi-channel video, audio-reactive installations, and physical printmaking. Working with TouchDesigner and mathematical systems, he builds generative environments where complex visual behavior emerges from simple rules — creating tangible objects through risograph, pen plotting and letterpress rooted in those same systems.Since 2014, his work has been exhibited across New York City with commissions at National Sawdust and Arcadia Earth, and recent presentations at Ulises Books (Philadelphia) and Confront Gallery (Brooklyn).

Since 2021, he has been a teaching artist at NYC Resistor, instructing courses in TouchDesigner, laser cutting, screen printing, and live coding. He has also trained in risograph printing and drum leaf bookbinding from the Center for Book Arts. In 2011, he founded GRNCH Productions, an electronic music label. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from the University of New Haven and resides in Brooklyn.

TouchDesigner is a real-time generative graphics application for creating everything from noise-driven abstract compositions to complex mathematical forms. In this class, we’ll use it as a design tool for print — building generative poster artwork and bringing it to life on the Risograph.

We’ll focus on building compositions designed for print output: working at print resolution, exporting high-quality stills, and separating artwork into two color channels ready for Riso printing. No experience with node-based programming required — we will walk through the basics of TouchDesigner logic, workflows, and settings that set you up for success.

From there we move to the Risograph: a brief history of the machine, how to operate it, and best practices for file preparation. We’ll explore how to maximize the visual effect of two colors through opacities, overlay, and knockout, taking full advantage of the generative source material built in TouchDesigner.
